“Alumni Celebration” to be held Oct. 23

UHCL is hosting an optional-black tie  October 23, at the South Shore Harbour Hotel in League City, Texas. The celebration will kick off with a cocktail reception at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner and the award presentations at 7 p.m. Live musical entertainment will be provided throughout the evening by UHCL alumnus Juan Manuel.

“Your Story…Our Story” is the theme for this year’s charity event and award celebration. Help celebrate the stories of our alumni, as well as the story of UHCL.

The  event will pay tribute to an outstanding group of honorees for their extraordinary professional achievements, significant contributions and dedicated community service. Distinguished Alumni Award honorees include UHCL Professor of Biology and Environmental Science Cindy Howard, ’81; Astronaut Lee M. Morin, ’09; Attorney Rebecca L. (Becky) Reitz, ’90; Attorney Marilyn Sims, ’98; Clear Creek ISD Superintendent Gregory R. Smith, ’84; and Hospital Corporation of America Gulf Coast Division President Maura Walsh, ’83. The Early Achievement Award will be presented to JGS Advisory Services LLC President and CEO James G. Springfield, ’91. The Leadership Service Award honoree is City of Houston Bureau of Animal Regulation and Care Senior Human Resources Specialist Joyce Delores Taylor, ’04,’06,’08. The Outstanding Professor Award will be presented to UHCL Associate Professor and Program Coordinator of Teacher Education Denise McDonald.

The UHCL Alumni Association is planning many events in the upcoming year and all invites all alumni to be a part of any events. If any Alumni would like to participate in planning these events, visit the Alumni committee and involvement site go to uhcl.edu search alumni  to see which committee is right for you. Submit your form indicating your choice and then attend the next quarterly alumni committee meeting on Thursday Nov, 18, 4-5 p.m. in the Bayou or Student Services Building.
