The Foreign Language and English Enhancement program at the University of Houston-Clear Lake (UHCL) provides non-credit courses for those interested in learning a new language or improving their English.

Registration for Session 3 is now open through Jan. 21, 2020. Session 3 courses will take place from Jan. 21 – Feb. 28, 2020.

“As there are no credit language programs at UHCL (other than my Spanish 1311, which is the beginner level), this is an opportunity to learn whatever language is appealing to the student in a small group environment at the level that the student needs,” said Christine Paul, director of the foreign language program and continuing education programs.

Language courses offered include Spanish, French, Chinese, Japanese, German, Italian, Russian, Portuguese and Arabic. The English enhancement program is meant for non-native English speakers seeking to improve conversational skills.

“The classes are all pedagogically viable, and will provide the tools to master the language and test out to a higher level at another institution, for example or for another degree, like a master’s,” Paul said. “Since the programs are non-credit, this means that there are no exams and they are also much less expensive than doing a credit class.”
