Bachelor of Fine Arts exhibition opens for 2023 spring semester

Art majors showcase their work for graduation.

The UHCL Arts Department is hosting its annual BFA Exhibition at the UHCL Art Gallery in Bayou Building. Students graduating in the Spring of 2023, and those who have graduated in the Fall of 2022, have been called to be given an opportunity to display their work.

Submissions made by students have been assessed by the jury of the Cultural Arts staff and the members of the UHCL Art and Design Departments’ distinguished faculty. The Jurors of the show are Lauren Kussro and Clay Leonard, Assistant Professors of Art & Design, David Moya, Clinical Assistant Professor of Art & Design, Eric Despard, Director of Cultural Arts, and Karen Fiscus, Coordinator of the UHCL Gallery.

During the dates of March 27 through the 31, Graduates and Undergrads alike came to help set up and display their pieces for this upcoming event, with Clay Leonard overseeing the Senior Arts Seminar this Spring semester with the aid of Jason Makepeace, Associate Professor.

Communication & Studio Arts, they demonstrated how to properly measure and display 2D pieces as well as provided organized spaces for 3D artists. The pieces selected for display range from a variety of different mediums, such as paintings, sculpture, ceramics, photography, as well as digital works.

There will be an opening reception on Thursday, April 6, from 4 to 6 p.m., where faculty and artists alike will come together and talk about their pieces and the process behind their works. In addition, the Art Association and the Art & Design Department will present several awards, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place as well as honorable mentions at the end of the evening. First place will also receive a gift certificate to Texas Art Supply. Last Spring Semester the Art Association awarded Stefany Zamora, alum, for her pastel portrait.

    The artists will showcase an exhibition of their undergraduate artwork. Our annual exhibition of art and design created by undergraduate students. So, take a look and pop them in your calendar so you can stay on top of what’s happening.
