It’s Saturday night, you’re sitting on the couch watching television when your girlfriend asks you, “where do you want to eat?” You hear those words and your mind is racing: What will we eat? Where will we go? What are we going to do? It’s as if space and time don’t exist anymore; all you can think about is where to eat.

First, take a deep breath, everything is going to be okay; there are plenty of fantastic restaurants within a few short miles of the school. In fact, my girlfriend and I ate at this great new restaurant at the Baybrook Mall expansion called Yard House.

We arrived at Yard House a little before 6 p.m. and were immediately impressed with the layout, atmosphere and energy of the restaurant.

The hostess seated us promptly at a nice table near the bar. The lightning was intimate and the music was great.

The floor plan is open and comfortable. You aren’t sitting to close to other guests where you feel awkward but you aren’t so far away that you feel exiled either.

Our waiter made our experience exceptionally memorable. He greeted us like we were friends and went over everything we needed to know as first-time customers. He explained how the pipes running from the bar, up into the ceiling and into the keg room on the second floor were real and functional. He told us the beer is chilled all the way from the keg room, down the pipes and into the taps around the bar. He went over some of the specials on the menu and made sure that everything we ordered was correct. Anytime we had a question or needed something he was on it.

We even stopped the manager to express how grateful we were for our waiter’s professionalism. We look forward to going back and sitting in his section again.

To start, we ordered sweet tea and the hummus as an appetizer, and it was fantastic. You could tell someone put time and effort into making the dish look enticing.

Our main dishes were even better. My girlfriend had the Maui Pineapple Chicken and I had the BBQ Chicken Salad. We were blown away at how nice the food was presented and even more shocked at how much food came with each dish. People around us were asking about what we ordered because it looked so good. Unfortunately, neither of us could finish our entrees, but that meant we had delicious left overs for the next day.

As a food fan, I was impressed with my overall experience dining at Yard House.

Next time you are hungry and craving a new dish or want to try some new craft beers, head over to Yard House at the Baybrook Mall expansion, you won’t be disappointed.
