MESSAGE FROM THE CHIEF OF POLICE: Campus Safety / General Safety

Welcome back, Hawks.

Now that the semester is underway, I am sharing some safety tips to help make your UHCL experience great.

Protect your valuables – The most frequently reported and easily preventable crime on the UHCL campus is theft. These tips apply everywhere and anytime – not just UHCL.

  • Never leave property unattended, even to go to the restroom for a moment.
  • Hide any property left in your vehicle. When possible, leave valuables at home.
  • Lock and close your doors while refueling your vehicle.
  • Avoid using your cell phone in public so you can focus your full attention on your surroundings.
  • Carpool or walk to classes with friends. Plan shopping trips together, when possible.
  • Put your cash away immediately, when visiting the bank or ATM. Take your receipt in case of an ATM error.
  • Sign up with your bank and credit card companies to receive text alerts every time your card is used.
  • Try to park in well-lit, heavily travelled areas. Lock your car doors.
  • If you use a bicycle, use a high-quality, heavy duty U-lock rather than a cable lock to secure your bike.

Have a great semester; be safe; be well.
