The Virginia Tech massacre was the beginning of movement that swept the nation. Numerous shootings had dominated the media before but this shooting prompted a movement for change.

President Staples and a Campus Carry Work Group held two town hall meetings, Feb. 11 and Feb. 17, to allow students, faculty and staff to voice their opinions and offer feedback for the newly drafted Campus Carry Draft Policy for UHCL.

Campus carry will be coming to UHCL in August 2016 and students will soon see that there is nothing to be afraid of.

As many UHCL community already know, the Texas legislature passed a law known as “campus carry” that will require all state universities to allow licensed concealed handguns on campus beginning August 1, 2016.

Despite concerns by many students, faculty and staff, UHCL is preparing for the campus carry law scheduled to take effect next August by creating a campus carry work group to determine policy recommendations for handguns on campus.
