‘Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension’: How scary is it?

I have not done my homework this week because I was too busy flinching at all the jump scares in “Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension.” Movies such as the “Paranormal Activity” franchise showcase horror in different way, but they started to lose hype after the hundreds of movies that copied it in the years to come. It seems like horror movies aren’t what they used to be anymore. They rely on a lot of jump scenes to frighten the audience.

The storyline wasn’t all that bad. It was actually better than the previous films, but feel like I am watching the previous films all over again. There’s the mom, the dad and the child that are haunted by the same demon. Sounds familiar, right? The film’s new gimmick is that you can see the activity (demon). I do prefer the unknown mystery the past films had to offer. Having that gut feeling in my stomach of not knowing what’s in the room is true horror.

The characters in the movie remind me a lot of the previous ones in the franchise. The actors did a good job, but there were a few moments where I did lose connection with them. Making sure your audience connects with the characters is important, otherwise, we wouldn’t care what happens to them.

This movie did amazing visually. Seeing the movie in RealD 3D made the audience scream at everything, even a chair! With the glasses on, I felt vulnerable knowing that something could potentially fly out of the screen toward me.

“Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension” took a different approach than the other movies. Although it was similar to the previous titles, it still had a lot of differences. The main demon of this movie was “Toby.” If you really want to see what he looks like, then this movie is right for you. I would have to give “Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension” 5.5/10 stars. Nothing like a good old scare to keep you from doing your homework.
