Lose a couple of pounds and still be a winner

PASA is hosting a “Biggest Loser” Challenge this Spring 2016 semester. Professional staff and faculty are encouraged to join this four-month challenge. The event is designed to not only help those interested in accomplishing their fitness goals, but also to give them the opportunity to develop new relationships with people who have the same aspirations.

“The goal is to have fun, get to know others we may not know on our campus by accessing the Fitness Zone and all other intramural activities that take place on our campus and last, but not least, help all who participate lose a couple of pounds and still be ‘winners’ if not the ‘Biggest Loser,’” said PASA President Bernie Streeter.

This year’s challenge will include monthly on-campus weigh-ins. The dates for the weigh-ins will be Feb. 15, March 7, April 4, May 2 and June 1 from 8 to 10 a.m. at UHCL’s Fitness Zone, located on the second floor of the SSCB.

Like the reality television show “The Biggest Loser,” this challenge will provide participants with everything they need to successfully reach the weight goal they desire.

Participants will be able to work one-on-one with a coach as well as with other challengers. Interested contestants also have the option to sign up for a free, closed Facebook accountability group.

The health and wellness coaches will use this accountability group to stay connected with participants, motivate them to do more, share recipes and tips and give challengers a daily dose of positivity. A points participation system is incorporated into the Facebook group, so Biggest Loser participants will have the chance to win prizes simply by getting involved.

Participants will also be provided with a complete meal plan and grocery lists. Shakeology meal replacement protein shakes will be available for purchase during weigh-ins at $5 per individual packet.

There is no registration fee. Interested participants simply have to attend the first weigh-in scheduled for Feb. 15 to sign up. PASA is in the process of identifying items to award as prizes for the top three participants; prizes will be announced later in the challenge.

“We’re hopeful that with the proper nutrition, support and the scheduled monthly weigh-ins, our challengers will see big results,” said Sandra Thomas, co-organizer and one of the coaches of the challenge.
