Art school for children and young adults at UHCL

University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Art School for Children and Young Adults begins June 5 and runs through June 29 for students Pre-K to 12th grade. Classes are twice a week, either Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays, depending on the courses. Morning and afternoon courses are available.

Classes for ages 3½ to 6 and classes for ages 6 through fourth grade will create their own original art, inspired by the art of England, using clay, paints, paper, oil pastels, markers and crayons.

Young artists in grades four through six will analyze examples of UHCL faculty artwork and explore various techniques in drawing, painting, ceramics, printmaking and digital. Students can be recommended for these classes by either a parent or teacher. Lessons change to accommodate continuing students.

Future artists in grades six through 12 can choose from three studios: drawing and painting, collage and printmaking, and clay hand-building techniques. Parents may enroll along with their student in any of these secondary-level classes. The curriculum changes each semester to accommodate continuing students.

All classes are in UHCL’s Arbor Building, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston. In addition, the Art School will hold classes at Armand Bayou Montessori School for children already enrolled there.

Prices range from $100-$130 depending on the selected class. All materials are provided. For more information, call 281-283-3344 or visit www.uhcl.edu/childrens-art-school.
