In a show of support, the nonprofit will reduce the admission price during those three days by half to $15 and will donate a third of those admissions to Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. Parking also will be free.
“Our hearts go out to all of those affected by Hurricane Harvey’s winds, torrential rain and the devastating flooding,” said William T. Harris, president and CEO of the Manned Space Flight Education Foundation and Space Center Houston. “Space Center Houston is a family and our family has enjoyed a deep and meaningful relationship with Texans and especially the people of the greater Houston area. While the recovery efforts will be arduous and emotional, we are committed to rebuilding our communities through the strength of our bonds.”
Space Center Houston was secured throughout this unprecedented weather event and did not flood. The artifacts are safe, including Independence Plaza which is engineered to withstand winds up to 120 miles per hour. The center closed last Saturday, Aug. 19.
NASA Johnson Space Center will remain closed until Tuesday, Sept. 5, so the NASA Tram Tour and Level 9 tour cannot be offered; however, the rest of the museum’s exhibits, films and shows will be open. There are added special daily appearances by an astronaut. The summer exhibit closes on Labor Day.
