EXPLAINER: The 2018 FIFA World Cup Trophy tours the globe

The Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) World Cup Trophy Tour tradition began in 2006 when FIFA and its partner Coca-Cola decided to take the original World Cup Trophy and fly it around the world until the 2006 World Cup Germany began. Now, in 2018, the tradition continues allowing fans to capture a photograph with the trophy while pumping them up for the excitement of a lifetime. This year, the tour took off in December from Russia and is making its way through six continents covering more than 50 countries before returning to Russia in May.
