MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT: Welcome message to students

Dear Students:

Welcome to University of Houston-Clear Lake! I am excited you have chosen to continue your education with us. This year will be exciting and rewarding as we embark on a new era of university history and continue to live up to our new tagline: Houston, We are the Solution.

As we begin a new academic year, I want to inform you of the upcoming activities and services on campus to support your academic and personal success. I encourage you to take advantage of educational opportunities across campus to build knowledge, learn new skills and engage with your peers.

  • The new STEM and Classroom Building and Recreation and Wellness Center are now open! Explore these new facilities for opportunities to work with our distinguished faculty on research, gain training in state-of-the-art laboratories, and pursue your wellness goals.
  • UHCL’s Bayou Theater has a great season lined up for you to experience some of the best live performances, beginning Sept. 21. And, that’s not all – the theater is undergoing a major transformation to enhance your entertainment experience. Learn more at uhcl.edu/bayoutheater.
  • There are many ways to get involved on campus. Get a glimpse of student organizations, campus traditions and meet fellow Hawks during Weeks of Welcome happening now through Sept. 8. Mark your calendar for the Welcome Back Bash on Aug. 30, 4-8 p.m. Visit uhcl.edu/wow to find a full list of events.
  • Remember, we are here to support you. Our faculty and staff are dedicated to your success and work diligently to provide the best student experience through the Math, Writing and Student Success Centers, the Dean of Students Office, Counseling Services and Career Services.
  • Be a proud Hawk. Every Wednesday is Blue and Green day. This is your chance to show your school spirit every week by wearing blue and green.

You have chosen the best place for your education, and I want your experience at UHCL to be enriching and rewarding. With your spirit, drive and dedication, I have no doubt you will succeed.  I look forward to seeing you around campus.

Go Hawks!

Sincerely,
Ira K. Blake, Ph.D.
President
