Winter has come to Houston with the ‘Game of Thrones Live Concert Experience’

The “Game of Thrones Live Concert Experience” is an all-arena tour featuring composer Ramin Djawadi, performing many of his most popular works featured on popular HBO series “Game of Thrones.” The tour consists of 24 dates in various cities across the United States and Canada.

On Sept. 17, the “Game of Thrones Live Concert Experience” stopped in Houston and transformed the Toyota Center into a scene straight out of the show. This allowed the audience to get a glimpse into the landscape and sounds of Westeros.

I watched the first episode “Game of Thrones” last summer and got hooked IMMEDIATELY. A big part of why I fell in love with the show was the music that played at big plot turns, so when I first arrived at the Toyota Center I was obviously more than excited.

When I walked into the arena for the first time, I was in awe! The main stage was set up with all the instruments that the orchestra would need, and it looked like the Great Hall of the Red Keep, complete with the Iron Throne! Throughout the arena there were thin walkways leading to various, smaller stages that were used as focal points for numerous songs and special instruments throughout the concert.

Julie Brenengen, coordinator of the Student Assistance Center, said she enjoyed her experience at the live concert.

“’Games of Thrones Live Concert’ was such an amazing experience,” Brenengen said. “It was like watching the show, which is already incredible, be even more incredible with your own personal orchestra. They brought outstanding music, lights, fog, and didn’t forget the fire either!”

Tyler Baggerley, biology major, was also glad that he was able to make it out to the “Game of Thrones Live Concert Experience.”

“I love Game of Thrones and I even have some of the music on my phone,” Baggerley said. “As a longtime fan it was amazing to hear the music that I’ve grown to love in person at a live concert.”

Overall, the “Game of Thrones Live Concert Experience” was just that: an experience. The music was astounding, and the special effects were visually eclectic. For more information on the tour, visit the “Game of Thrones Live Experience” website.
