Q&A: Country singer-songwriter John King to perform in Houston for the first time at Bayou Theater
Rising country star John King is set to perform his latest single “Heat Wave” and more at the Bayou Theater Nov. 15 at 7:30 p.m. The singer-songwriter, who signed with Sony/ATV Nashville Publishing in April, saw his debut radio single “Tonight Tonight” not only chart on the Top 40 in 2014, but also be used during CBS’ “Thursday Night Football.”
Q: Have you ever been to Houston before? What are you looking forward to about performing at UHCL’s Bayou Theater?
A: This will be my first time and I am so excited to come out! I hear it’s a great campus and we always love getting down to Texas any chance we get.
Q: How did your time in college at the University of Georgia (UGA) impact your music career?
A: I learned a lot from my time at UGA. That was where I really started developing a business sense for what I was doing and where I wanted my career path to lead. We started touring heavily while I was in college and building the foundation for our fanbase.
Q: If you could perform with any artist or band, who would it be and why?
A: I’ve always loved GARTH [Brooks]! I think he is just one of the most talented performers of our genre. I love the way he interacts with the crowd and makes everybody feel as if they are part of the show. It would definitely be an honor to share the stage with him one day!
Q: What was the process like of making your latest single “Heat Wave”? Additionally, can fans expect more songs (and/or a full-length album) soon?
It was honestly a super fun process from start to finish with “Heat Wave.” That song was so fun to write, record and it’s always a blast to play it live. The music video was literally just a day on the lake having fun with some of my good friends. It’s one of those days where you have to pinch yourself and ask, “Is this really my job?” haha. We are in the process of recording a lot of new songs for next year I’m really excited about. We will be performing some of those at the theater on Nov. 15!
Q: Congrats on recently becoming a dad. Has fatherhood influenced how you write, record or perform music?
A: It has been an absolute dream. I couldn’t be happier raising baby Scarlett. She opens up a whole new world of emotion and changes the way I see the world every day. So, yes being a dad has definitely inspired a new side of me when it comes to writing, recording and performing.
Q: Lastly, is there anything you would like our readers to know about yourself, your music and/or your upcoming performance at the Bayou Theater?
A: I would encourage everybody to get ready for a high energy show! We pride ourselves on putting everything we have into each performance. So get ready!!
