Writing Center to host a variety of creative writing workshops

UHCL’s Writing Center will be hosting multiple creative writing workshops this fall semester.

Writing Center worker Brandon Burrow and consultant Matt Smith will be cooperatively running a workshop entitled Decisions & Directions that focuses on collaborative storytelling and fluidly crafting story structures in a fun and activity-focused group setting.

“Using cultural touch stones including role-playing games such as Dungeons & Dragons and references to various media and improvisational techniques, we hope to provide attendees with experiences and tools to improve their critical and improvisational thinking skills, collaborative cohesion, and overall confidence when writing either academically or creatively in both individual and group settings.” Burrow said in an email.

The workshop will take place on Thursdays from noon to 12:45 p.m. in the Writing Center conference room located within SSCB 2.101 starting on September 12th and will run for seven weeks after the initial session. All are welcome to attend the events.

Other events the Writing Center will be having include The Creative Scholar, whose purpose is to strengthen one’s academic writing skills through creative writing. The workshop will be every Tuesday at noon, from September 10 to October 8.

Fantasy Worldbuilding will also be continuing another year, being every Wednesday at noon from September 4 to October 30.

There will also be one workshop in November, called “Create Your Own Fantasy Language” on Monday, November 4 from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
