On Oct. 19 the University of Houston- Clear Lake’s (UHCL) Campus Recreation and Wellness Center hosted Plant the Promise – an environmental effort dedicated to sustainability and global awareness. The event held on campus in the Rec Center Backyard was open to students, faculty, staff and community members. To combat air pollution by planting, the event encouraged involvement with various eco-friendly activities such as planting, pot decorating, and meditation.
UHCL’s 524-acre campus is located on a nature preserve and home to numerous species of wildlife. It is not uncommon for students to witness sightings on their walks to class. Among the social, economic, and environmental benefits of planting, it also provides habitat for wildlife, such as those that call UHCL home.
In addition to the Green Hawks’ support of the event, the Environmental Institute of Houston (EIH) donated Texas Bluebonnet seeds which were provided to event attendees for their decorated pots. Lowes showed their support with the donation of soil, which was used for planting the seeds.
