BRIEF: International Education Week begins week of November 18

The Office of Global Learning and Strategy will be hosting International Education Week Nov. 18-22. The office will have multiple events that week, starting Tuesday, Nov. 19 with the event titled What in the F-1?, which will take place from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. and will be an opportunity to learn the basics of immigration statuses at UHCL.

Tuesday will also have the International Trail Mix It Up event from 2 – 4 p.m. in the Office of Student Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, in which students can share and learn about the experience of being an international student while enjoying snacks, as well as the Cultural Potluck at 7 p.m. in the Hunter Hall Lobby.

Other events will include UHCL’s annual Global Expo on Wednesday, Nov. 20 from 12 – 4 p.m., which gives students, staff and faculty the opportunity to learn about the many cultures that make up the UHCL population. F-1 students planning to travel for winter break can come to get their I-20 signed at the Travel Signature Express the same day from 12 – 4 p.m. in Atrium II of the Bayou Building. 

Thursday will have the most events, starting with two CIEE Study Abroad Information Sessions, the first from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and the second from 1 – 2 p.m. The next event is the OPT Information Session at 2 p.m. which F-1 students graduating in spring 2020 are encouraged to attend (it is mandatory) to learn about work authorization after graduation. The session will have prizes as well. There will also be the Study Abroad Q&A on Thursday, Nov. 21 from 2:30 – 4:30 p.m. in Atrium 1 of the Bayou Building.
