MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT: Celebrating your success

Dear Hawks,

In spite of the challenges we have faced this semester, you have all made sacrifices and put in the hard work to achieve the important milestone of graduating with your degree from UH-Clear Lake. I commend you on your commitment and perseverance. As you know, the COVID-19 pandemic prevents us from gathering in the traditional way to celebrate spring 2020 commencement. While we will not be gathering this May, I want to assure you that we will be celebrating your accomplishments and ushering you in as alumni.

You, your families and loved ones are invited to join a virtual commencement ceremony on Friday, July 17, 2020, at 6:30 p.m.

Let me reassure you that if you meet the requirements of your degree program, you will still graduate in May. We are committed to evaluating your eligibility and posting your degrees to your transcripts by early June. You will receive your diploma within eight weeks after the end of the semester via mail at the address you indicated on your application for graduation just as we would any other semester.

Additionally, all graduates of the spring 2020 class will be invited to our next face-to-face commencement ceremony, which we hope will be held in fall 2020.

We will share more details leading up to the virtual commencement, so monitor your UHCL email and visit the UHCL Commencement web page regularly for more information.

And, while we will hold the virtual ceremony in July, we still plan to do some online cheering in May. Your UHCL Alumni Association will also host the Soaring Hawks Car Parade on Sunday, May 17, from 4-6 p.m. You will receive more details about those events soon from your Alumni Association.

I wish you the best on your final exams and projects, and look forward to celebrating with you. Remember to stay healthy, stay focused, work hard and keep a positive attitude!

Ira K. Blake, Ph.D.
President
