BRIEF: Friday Morning Continuing Education program resumes online

The University of Houston Clear Lake’s Friday Morning Continuing Education (FMCE) program will resume on Friday, May 1 at 9:30 a.m. through Zoom.

One of the events offered on Friday is a continuation of FMCE’s classes on the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (U.S.S.R,) a former country that now occupies Russia and 14 other nations. “USSR 102: The Soviet Experiment (1939-1964)” is lead by Kimberly St.Julian-Varnon, a history instructor at Lee College.

The class will focus on the U.S.S.R during WW2, life prior to the 1950s and the final years of Joseph Stalin, a general secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.

Future events include “75th Anniversary of VE Day: A Curious Peace” hosted by  William Powers, Director, Academics for Offenders Program on May 8 and a FMCE Virtual Happy Hour on May 15 with Jennifer Lehnert.

All of FMCE’s classes are free for the rest of the semester, however, to enroll in the “USSR 102: The Soviet Experiment (1939-1964)” class, those who are interested need to RSVP by 5 p.m. Thursday, April 30 by emailing Christine M. Paul, Director of the Foreign Language Program, at paul@uhcl.edu.
