COMMUNITY UPDATE: Online Writing Workshops
The Writing Center would like to invite you to join us for one or more of the 3 online writing workshops we will be hosting this fall, starting as soon as next week! Whether you have a passion or passing interest in creative writing, consider stopping by for one of our workshop sessions in the Conference Room of our Online Writing Studio:
Title | Tropes in Their Natural Habitat |
Facilitators | Colin & Russell |
Time | Tuesdays @ 5:30 PM, September 29-October 27 |
Description | What do Lord of the Rings, The Hunger Games, and Pokémon Red have in common? All three start in grassy fields, then cross water, go to the big city, and end somewhere fiery and evil — in that order. This workshop is about these kinds of weird coincidences in books, movies, TV, and video games. Come tell us about your favorite media and any patterns you’ve noticed! We’ll cover character, plot, dialogue, and more, with the goal of using tropes to become better writers. |
Title | Brevity is the Soul of Wit: Writing Short Stories |
Facilitators | Emma & Brandon |
Time | Thursdays @ 12 PM, November 5-December 3 |
Description | Do you have a story idea you’ve been waiting for the right time to work on? Well, November is National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), so come join us at the Writing Center for a creative writing workshop! We know you’re probably too busy to write a novel, so we’ll be focusing on short stories instead as we cover topics like concise storytelling, story structure, dialogue, and other techniques in short fiction in this month-long workshop. |
Title | Spooktober: Ghouls, Ghasts, and Goosebumps |
Facilitators | Will & Brandon |
Time | Fridays @ 3pm – 4pm, October 2-October 30 |
Description | Spooktober is the time for pumpkin spice and everything not nice. Join us at the Writing Center for a month-long creative writing workshop focused on exploring the elements of horror fiction including discussions about menacing monsters, mysticism, thrilling suspense, supernatural scares, spooky scary skeletons, and anything else that makes your skin crawl. |
