COMMUNITY UPDATE: Call for Applications – THECB Student Rep and UHS Student Regent

On behalf of the Student Government Association, below are two (2) great external leadership opportunities to consider as part of your college experience!

Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB)
2021-2022 Non-Voting Student Representative

Section 61.0225 of the Texas Education Code authorizes the Governor to appoint a non-voting student representative to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) for a term not to exceed one year beginning this year on June 1, 2021 and ending on May 31, 2022. The student representative shall enjoy the same rights as a regularly appointed board member, except the right to vote or be counted towards a quorum for official board business. The student representative serves without compensation.

University of Houston System
2021-2022 Student Regent Application

In 2005, the 79th Texas Legislature authorized the Governor to appoint a nonvoting student regent to the UH System. To aid the Governor in his selection, the chancellor of each university system must recommend students based on applications submitted by each president on behalf of the institution’s student government association.

Student Regent position details, eligibility, requirements, expectations, and application are available in the link below.

Important note: a UHCL student has never served on the UHS Board of Regents, let’s see if this is our year!

Applications for both leadership opportunities are due to the UHCL Student Government Association by Monday, November 30, 2020, for full consideration.

All hard copies of the applications will need to be submitted to the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership, as SGA’s office hours vary this semester. Their office is locating in the Student Services Classroom Building (SSCB) on the first floor inside the Student Lounge. Office hours are Monday – Friday, 8am-5pm.

Please address any questions or concerns to the SGA advisor, Patrick Lawrence Cardenas at cardenas@uhcl.edu.

The Signal posts community updates on a regular basis to keep the campus updated on events, deadlines, policy changes and other important happenings around UHCL. Community updates can be submitted by any individual or organization here.
