CONTRIBUTION: Call for students for colloquium speaker series subcommittee

Dear Students, 

A group of faculty at UHCL is invested in promoting several interrelated Equity and Inclusion Initiatives on campus. These faculty members are Dr. Desdamona Rios, Dr. Emily Fessler, Dr. Amy Lucas, and myself. Our first initiative is the colloquium speaker series. The colloquium series subcommittee will begin meeting in Spring 2021 to discuss collaborative ways to meet the needs of our university’s diverse community and to plan the speaker series, which would launch next Fall and would bring speakers with expertise in equity and social justice to campus. The other initiatives include equity training for faculty, staff, and administrators, and a UHCL Equity and Ethnic Studies program. 

 We want you to know that we believe the inclusion of student voices is crucial to making our proposed initiatives more equitable. Therefore, we encourage students who might be interested in joining the colloquium speaker series subcommittee to reach out. (Please contact Dr. Cedillo at cedilloc@uhcl.edu.) We aim to foster a space for open and mutually beneficial dialogue where students, too, feel respected and heard.
