Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself, on both a personal and professional/educational level?

A: I am Stephanie Perez, and I am a first-year Digital Media Studies graduate student. I graduated from UHCL in May 2020 with my Bachelor of Arts in Communication and decided to stay at UHCL to further my career opportunities. I am also the Managing Editor of Outreach at The Signal.

As for my personal life, I love watching Netflix, spending time with family and going out for walks. I spend so much of my time doing school work so I prefer doing things that help me relax and unwind.

Q: What are three things you can’t live without?

A: Three things I can’t live without are water, my family and my Crocs.

Q: Who are some women (real or fictional) you look up to the most? Why?

A: I look up to my mom because she has the biggest heart in anyone I have ever met. She has instilled love and compassion in me and my siblings and has always been our number one supporter in anything we do. I also look up to my aunt because she has taught us to be ourselves. Both of them are the reason I am who I am and I will forever be thankful for them.

Q: What are some problems you anticipate/have encountered as a woman in your field?

A: Being a Latinx woman in my field, I anticipate having to work twice as hard to get to where I want. I also anticipate being underestimated and overlooked.

Q: What is the best piece of advice you have ever been given?

A: The best piece of advice I have ever received is “don’t rush things.” We are always trying to get to the finish line that we forget to enjoy things as they come.

Q: Is there anything you would like our readers to know?

A: Take care of your mental health. Life is stressful enough, so make sure to take some time to care for yourself.
