COMMUNITY UPDATE: 2021-2022 Minnie Piper Stevens Teaching Award Nominee
UHCL Minnie Stevens Piper Professor Nominee
Youssef Hamidi, Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering in the College of Computer Science and Engineering, is the University of Houston-Clear Lake’s nominee for the 2021-2022 Minnie Stevens Piper Professor Award.
A nomination from one of his students, Rosario Orsino, included these comments: “What sets Dr. Hamidi apart from other professors is that he actively engages his students in his classes and laboratory experiments. His is not a class room where you can just sit and listen, he will ask you questions and help you understand. Even during the pandemic with the virtual learning, Dr. Hamidi would get conversations started and students discussing their ideas. He is intentional in his teaching and the in repetition of concepts and homework problems to ensure that students have the practice they need to succeed in his class.” Student, Lloyd Pate, stated: “As a result of his classes I see the world differently; I enjoyably see things in terms of material science and stress analysis. I even have near term plans to incorporate what I learned from him into my hobbies. I would go out of my way to take any future class Doctor Hamidi is teaching,”

- Dr. Georgina Moreno, Assistant Professor of Psychology, College of Human Sciences and Humanities.
