University of Houston Clear Lake’s School of Education recognized its spring 2013 Success Through Education Program scholarship recipients at its January kickoff luncheon.

STEP is a collaborative effort with UHCL and four area school districts and four community colleges to create opportunities for students to explore teaching as a profession and to prepare them to become certified teachers. UHCL partners include Goose Creek Consolidated Independent School District and Lee College, Galveston Independent School District and Galveston College, Galena Park Independent School District and San Jacinto North Community College, and Houston Independent School District and Houston Community College Southeast.

The luncheon’s guest speaker was Michael Marquez, principal at Clear Creek Independent School District’s McWhirter Elementary School and UHCL alumnus. The STEP gathering provided get-acquainted activities, along with the opportunity to meet School of Education faculty members, and to ask questions and receive advice and tips for ensuring academic success.
