SPOILERS AHEAD

After leaving off at the BOBecue from last episode, we know articulate nemesis Gareth is crazy. He is trying to justify his cannibalism with some analogy about bears eating their young. He would have been better off eating the vegetables that were being grown at Terminus, instead of eating the tainted meat that was Bob. This brings up the question; would it hurt people to eat meat that had the walker virus flowing through the bloodstream? The virus is already in the air, so everyone is infected. The act of boiling the meat, wouldn’t even be an issue that that point.

This leads up to the question; is there a cure? Abraham seems pretty dead set on the notion of Eugene knowing the cure for the walker virus, but Eugene’s reasoning seems pretty sketchy. In this episode, the camera racks focus between Eugene and a wood sign that reads, “Stupidity is also a gift of God but one mustn’t misuse it.” This explains why Eugene can’t shoot a gun, but might possibly have the dumb-luck to solve the walker crisis at hand. Eugene thinks if he can get to Washington D.C., they can create an antidote. But who knows what D.C. looks like. It could look like Georgia, it could be worse! It could be a functioning society. No one will know until they arrive there. At the end of the episode, Eugene gives Rick a map with an apology and his nod of approval of his Ricktatorship. Rick already agreed in episode two to travel to D.C., this gives the group hope and direction.

This church massacre scene was aesthetically pleasing. The juxtaposition of Rick & Company leaving the church while Gareth & Friends approach was very well played. The use of light and shadows upon Rick’s appearance was cinematically beautiful. There was also a sense of poetic justice with the return of the red machete, Rick kept his promise. During this scene, Glenn seemed to have a look of shock and awe on his face. It wasn’t the same as Father Gabriel’s look of shock of such violence in the “house of god.” Maggie made it pretty clear that this isn’t a house of god, it’s just “four walls and a roof.” Glenn’s reaction is strange seeing how in the previous episode Glenn said that they are not splitting up again and he agrees with Rick on everything. Good going Glenn, y’all split up.

Now we have Glenn, Maggie, Eugene, Abraham and Tara on a wild good chase for a cure in Washington D.C. Will the rest of the group follow? After seeing Daryl show up, with a mysterious guest, who knows where Rick & Company will go. There might be a new place out there. In the previews for next week, we finally see that Beth is alive and well. She is at a hospital, which looks oddly similar to the way Rick woke up from his coma in season one.

But who was Daryl’s mysterious guest? Daryl wouldn’t say “come on out,” to Carol. It has to be someone new, or possibly old. We saw the scene with Morgan, from season one, roaming through the woods. Could this be Daryl’s guest? Did Beth finally come home?
