“Parents and Special Education Professionals – The Power of Partnership”
Presented by Kathleen Billette-Saul, BCBA, Behavior Specialist, Cypress-Fairbanks ISD

The constantly evolving relationship between schools and parents of children with disabilities can feel like a roller coaster ride.  However, both sides share a common desire to help students grow into well-rounded adults and successful community members. Learn how to avoid common pitfalls and instead build a strong collaborative relationship to achieve success in reaching common goals. With a unique perspective as a behavior analyst for a school district and parent of a child with autism, Ms. Billette-Saul will explore a number of approaches to the IEP process and offer perspectives to bring common understanding and positive outcomes. This will include determination of placement and services, independent evaluations, special education advocacy, staff selection, and avoidance of delays in service. School personnel and parents will increase their understanding of each other’s perspective and reflect on what they can do to develop a productive relationship for the greater good of students with disabilities.
