It’s 2015, and for college students the stress of beginning a new school semester and the readjustment to school life from summer vacation can be a daunting task. Even more so, with this change of daily routines finding time to exercise and stay fit can also be difficult. Honestly, it’s hard enough to process keeping up with classes, possibly working full or part time, and maintaining a social life; the last thing on most people’s minds, let alone students’ minds is staying fit and being motivated to stay fit.

As a student myself, I’ll admit that a night of binge watching Netflix shows sounds a lot more appetizing than sweating to sets of pushups, planks and squats, but much like anything worth doing in life two things are required: effort and follow-through. In my opinion, staying fit doesn’t have to be perceived as stressful or daunting, nor should it require access to a gym. What I believe is required is a shift of focus. So what if you can’t go to the gym today; be resourceful and realize that you’ve probably got a couch and a towel: do some dips. So what if you only have ten minutes of spare time: hit your abs. So what if your favorite show is on TV: be honest with yourself and admit that there’s probably a commercial break coming up soon and crank out some pushups.

Let’s face it, student life isn’t always easy, nor is it filled with ample amounts of free time, but as I go about this journey of a new semester I plan on finding ways to utilize my free time in a way that benefits my health. I may not always be successful in this endeavor, but effort and follow-through will be in the front of my mind. I hope that anyone who reads this blog will be inspired to stay fit and motivated to exercise. This new semester doesn’t need to be stressful, so join me by working off some stress.

I’m Zach Sang and welcome to Finding Time For Fitness.
