POETRY: ‘Dark Gardens’

Contributed by: Natalia Marfil, biology major
I’ve seen
how bitter
and how dark
it is beneath your skin.
I know
how cold
and how vacant
it can feel within your bones.
so if I ever left behind
any trace, any remains
of myself
anywhere inside of you,
I hope
you feel them flourish
from within your depths
so that every time you breathe,
you smell red roses
and every time you speak,
you taste new life.
and maybe then you’ll understand
how even in the darkest,
coldest
parts of you,
flowers can still bloom.
