POETRY: ‘Beat’

Some nights as I lay still, I can feel my heart beat
but the rhythm is all wrong
It beats strong, but not in time
Not in tune with my thoughts
It keeps skipping the beat that drums out
fear
it’s
un
sure
of where
to rest and pick up again
Sometimes I wonder if it will just stop
