SGA meeting – Feb. 28, 2017

The meeting started with fund requests from student organizations.
• Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (IEEE) requested funds to host a “Tech Talk” every month in the school semester. The presentations will be held in the Garden Room for approximately two hours and will be free for all students.
• The Model Arab League requested funds for 16 students for their trip to nationals in Washington, D.C.
• Indian Student Association’s (ISA) fund request was approved for their event, Holi. Holi is a festival of colors that is held at the end of winter to celebrate the beginning of spring. The event will be held March 12 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. It is free for all students and will take place at the Delta football ground.

The Executive Council gave their weekly reports.
• They started with reminding the student organizations about the food drive, which is currently taking place until March 21. The goal is to receive 500 or more donations from each organization and 2700 pounds of food or more in total. Donations can be dropped off at the SGA office.
• SGA is taking nominations for student organization/leader of the month for March. The deadline for nominations is March 21 and the winners will be announced March 28.

After the executive council reports, the student organizations made their announcements.
• The American dental society will be hosting a fundraiser at Menchies Feb. 28.
• Behavioral Neuroscience Student Organization (BNSO) will start their program, New Path. The program starts March 2 and lasts for six weeks. It is free for all students, but students must sign up for the program by emailing cazes@uhcl.edu.
• PSI CHI and Psychology Club are still accepting donations for the Together We Rise event. The donations are to provide bags, school supplies and daily essentials for local foster kids. A local ministry will match donations. For more information, email richter3777@uhcl.edu.
• PSI CHI and Psychology Club will also have a grad school expo March 24 from noon to 3 p.m. The workshops will take place in Bayou Building rooms 1217, 1218, 2234 and 2237.
• Campus Activities Board (CAB) will host Go Texan Day March 1 from noon to 4 p.m. in Atrium II.

The meeting ended with general announcements.
• The UHCL student conference is April 17-20 for research and creative arts. Students are welcome to participate or just watch. For more information, email burtn0086@uhcl.edu.
• The deadline for the chili cook-off is March 1. The deadline for Honor Societies commencement is March 3. Requests for honor cords are due March 30 at noon. Approval letters will be sent out April 3. The president’s roundtable will take place March 24 and April 14 in the Student Org. Room from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
• SLICE needs site leaders for Day of Service March 4 from 8 to 10 a.m. Register at uhcl.edu/slice. SLICE will have a leadership workshop March 9, 5 to 7 p.m. in the Student Service Building Room 3306. Presenter Yolanda Barnes will host Why We Have Too Few Women Leaders.
• Career Week started Feb. 27 and will continue until March 1. Employers will review resumes Feb. 28, 1-4 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. in the Bayou Building Forest Room. Practice interviews with employers will take place March 1, 1-4 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. in the Student Services Building in the career services room, 3.109. Registration is required for the practice interviews. If interested, call career services, 281-283-2590.
