Q: How did your time at UHCL impact where you are today in your career?

A: At UHCL I discovered my passion for human rights, and acquired the knowledge and understanding I needed to fight against the oppression and discrimination that still exists in our society.

Q: In your current position as the director of communications for Jolt, what motivates you to do the work you do?

A: My main motivator is our undocumented youth. I see myself reflected in the struggles of the thousands of DACA recipients that are currently under attack by our state’s government. I refuse to accept racism and the criminalization of immigrants in America. They are our nation’s foundation and deserve to be treated with dignity and respect.
Q: What are some achievements or challenges you’ve had this year and how have they impacted you?

A: 2018 has been a powerful year. I was fortunate to travel and meet with the rejected, abused, and neglected immigrants from across the country. My public speaking events strive to create a brave space for my audience to speak about their struggles and challenges. I believe that the those who live the injustices are closer to the answers, so we must listen to them and let them lead us to the solutions to our problems.

Q: What is the best piece of advice you have ever been given or would give?

A: Stop looking for a leader, step up and fill the void.
