REVIEW: ‘Jane the Virgin’ enters final season

“Jane the Virgin” grasps the concept of a modern-day telenovela. The drama, the jaw-dropping revelations, the impossible twists and turns this television show devours us with is what makes us beg for more.

“Jane the Virgin” is about a Latina, Jane, who was wrongfully artificially inseminated and becomes a pregnant virgin. If that is not crazy enough, she is constantly in a love triangle with her pre-pregnancy fiancé, Michael, and the father of her child, Rafael.

This television show revolves around the war for love. Whether the war is between Jane’s lovers, Michael and Rafael, or between Jane’s mom, Xiomara, and estranged father, Rogelio, there is always a fight for someone’s heart.

“Jane the Virgin” is more than just your average sitcom. The show brings heart, values and morals to light such as waiting to have sex until marriage and doing what is in the best interest for your child above anything else. It also talks about how Jane’s abuela, or grandmother, got a green card because it was the right thing to do. This is just a short list of the many wonderful qualities “Jane the Virgin” possesses.

Gina Rodriguez, who plays Jane, won a Golden Globe Award in 2015 for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series. Her stunning performance is one of the reasons “Jane the Virgin” has won 16 awards and acquired 62 nominations since its premiere in October 2014.

Although there are a lot of heartwarming values in the show, there are also a lot of heartbreaking scenes that leave viewers speechless. “Jane the Virgin” has successfully produced four intense seasons, and the fifth and final season aired on March 27.

Since this is the final season, watchers are predicting this means that it may be the most intense season yet with closures to the cliff hangers that have been occurring throughout the entire show.

To binge watch the first four seasons of “Jane the Virgin,” Netflix is the place to go. If cable is not an option, streaming the fifth season of “Jane the Virgin” will be available on CW’s streaming website. Begin the binge!
