Rec Center to hold spring 2019 faculty and staff vs.student leaders kickball

The spring 2019 Faculty and Staff vs. Student Leaders Kickball game will take place on Friday, April 12 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Recreation and Wellness Center. The game will be outside in the center’s backyard, which is between the STEM building and Rec Center. The number of teams to compete against the students will be chosen depending on the number of faculty and staff interested.

The format for the event will be a three-game series and all three games will be played regardless of the outcome of the first two. The first game will start at 2 p.m., the second one at 3 p.m. and the third one at 4 p.m. Those interested can sign up to play in any or all games and come and go as they please.

The Rec Center will provide drinks and snacks, as well as chairs, tents and a “great atmosphere for friendly competition.” The Rec center encourages all members of the UHCL community to come and support the event as spectators if they are not interested in playing. All participants will be required to complete a waiver for participation, which will be available at the event. Rules for the games will be sent out prior to the event. There will be no practices held for the event.

“These games are intended to be a fun and recreational way to interact and engage between our student leaders and our faculty and staff,” Brian Mills, director of campus recreation and wellness, said in an email sent out to students. “Our hope is that, at a minimum, students interact with a professor or a staff member who assisted them through a process or answered a question and see them in a different setting in a different way. Because this is fun-focused event, seeing students and faculty and staff all playing a game, laughing, joking, shaking hands, congratulating each other on great plays or goofy plays, it slowly changes the dynamics of our culture as a university.”
