UNIVERSITY PRESS RELEASE

HOUSTON, April 19, 2019 We are pleased to announce that Phillip Gore will join the Division of Student Affairs as the director of The Captain Wendell M. Wilson Office of Veteran Services effective June 3, 2019. Gore was one of four finalists from a national search who visited campus last month. He had an opportunity to visit with student veterans, faculty, staff and students across University of Houston-Clear Lake.

As the director, Gore will serve as the leading authority for Veteran Services at UHCL and will work with multiple agencies and programs to provide outreach and services to student veterans and their dependents. His previous experience on resources pertaining to veterans’ benefits and educational applications will provide our student veterans and dependents with the support and guidance in their effective application for available programs and benefits.

“Mr. Gore is an established veteran services professional, and his expertise in community building for military-connected students and their families will be critical in enhancing and expanding the services we provide to our students. His appointment will allow Veteran Services to grow into its next (and best!) iteration,” stated Natasia Z. Pilling, interim coordinator of Veteran Services and a member of the search committee.

Gore most recently served as the director of Military and Veteran Affairs at Georgia Southern University. In addition, he has served as a program development and training consultant and regional commercial sales manager. He also honorably served as an operations manager/training officer in the United States Army. Through Gore’s efforts, his previous university received over 30 national awards for being one for the best institutions of higher learning for service members, veterans and their families. Gore received his Master of Arts in Professional Communication and Leadership from Armstrong State University and his Bachelor of Multidisciplinary Studies from the University of Texas at El Paso.

“I look forward to working with the talented team in the Division of Student Affairs and the campus community to advance the university’s mission and ensure our military-affiliated students have the resources they need to accomplish their academic, professional and life goals,” shared Gore.

Interim Vice President Maxwell added, “I am excited to have Phil join the Division of Student Affairs team at UHCL. His enthusiasm, experience and vision for The Captain Wendell M.
