Local credit union continues tradition of giving to UHCL autism center

University Press Release

Each year, employees at Gulf Coast Educators Federal Credit Union make a special effort to support local education. GCEFCU has been a longstanding partner and sponsor of University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities and its outreaches. Since 2014, the credit union has donated $1,000 to CADD to support its programs and outreaches.

“All our employees contribute money to give back to different organizations related to education in our area,” said Rebeca Gonzalez, business development coordinator at GCEFCU.

Gonzalez said that every pay period, employees pay $4 to wear jeans on Fridays. “The money is collected, and then we distribute it between different organizations that support school districts and educators in Houston,” she said. “We are very happy to donate our funds to CADD. We can see its positive impact on families and teachers who need assistance.”

“We are so grateful for the continued support of GCEFCU,” said CADD Director and Professor of Psychology Dorothea Lerman. “In addition to the annual monetary gift, they provide a complimentary lunch to teachers who participate in our five-day summer teacher training every year.”
