PRESS RELEASE: Welcoming Dr. Yvonne Hernandez Friedman

The Division of Student Affairs is excited to welcome Dr. Yvonne Hernandez Friedman as our first Assistant Vice President for Student Engagement.  Dr. Hernandez Friedman will join our team Monday, March 29, 2021.  We are very excited and looking forward to having her join the division and our campus community.

Dr. Hernandez Friedman will be will be transitioning to the University of Houston – Clear Lake (UHCL) from California where she will be concluding her role as the Associate Director of Residential Success & Community Development at the University of California, San Diego.

Dr. Hernandez Friedman identifies as a Latina, first-generation college student and brings a passion for her work which is underscored by a commitment to equity and inclusion as well as a passion to create a diverse campus environment.  She has a Doctorate in Education from Claremont Graduate University focused on educational equity and social justice and a Master of Education in Higher and Postsecondary Education from Arizona State University.  She received her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Arizona State University.

Dr. Y is a native of Arizona and has been in California for 17 years where she met her husband, Todd. She has a toddler, Mason, and is inspired (and amused) everyday by his imagination and creativity.  Dr. Y is a Peloton fanatic and is a volunteer for Lasagna Love where she can use her culinary skills to support food insecurity in the San Diego community by providing lasagnas to those in need of a hot meal.

Yvonne is very excited to be a part of the UHCL community and the Division of Student Affairs.  She is looking forward to starting a new adventure in Houston.
