REVIEW: Slim Chickens gives chicken fans reason to cross the road to satisfy hunger

In an age where a good suburban Popeyes is rare, Canes has no seasoning and liking Chick-Fil-A is a moral conscience dilemma, Slim Chickens arrives to be League City’s saving grace for good chicken. 

Like Canes, Slim Chickens’ main and most popular product is its chicken tenders, which can be ordered in meals that come with three, four, five and even seven tenders – known as the Hungry Meal. These tenders are well fried with the right amount of seasoning added as well to give it a wonderful juicy flavor. Along with well-made fries and a slice of toast, the tender meals are cuisines one cannot go wrong with, aside from maybe overestimating how much their stomach can take. 

As one might expect with any chicken fast food restaurant, there is the usual orange sauce, this one being dubbed “Slim Sauce,” that is meant to go with the chicken tenders. Thicker than Canes’ tender sauce, but much smoother than McDonalds’ chicken sauce, the Slim Sauce is one that certainly satisfies customers.

Unlike other chicken tender based restaurants, Slim Chickens also offers other chicken-based meals like wings, and a wonderful chicken sandwich called the Cayenne Ranch sandwich.

Despite this being the only sandwich the restaurant has, one bite shows that is the only sandwich necessary as the chicken patty bursts with wonderful seasoned flavor that works with or without the cayenne ranch it is named after.  

Aside from the chicken, the restaurant offers a unique dessert not too common at other chicken-focused restaurants. This dessert is the simply named “Jar Dessert” consists of special puddings in a jar mixed with other complimenting ingredients. The chocolate brownie jar, for example, consists of chocolate pudding, brownie, and other ingredients that result in a sort of parfait kind of dessert.

One of the best features about the Slim Chickens franchise as a whole is the app, which upon downloading automatically provides the consumer with a free cayenne ranch sandwich. Like many apps, the user can use the app to scan the receipt of their purchases and earn points, each point representing a dollar. Upon earning fifty points, users are then given rewards and discounts such as having several dollars off their next purchase and earning more free meals. 

Overall, customers will find Slim Chickens to have great chicken tenders meals, a wonderful lone chicken sandwich and an array of other chicken-based meals for everyone. Slim Chickens is a place worth trying for those of League City and the surrounding area, with the potential to take off as the best fast-food chicken joint in town.
