LETTER: ‘Attack of the group project’ image
Contributed by Neal T. Dugre, assistant professor history
To the editor,
I was appalled when I opened your latest issue to see that someone thought a piece of notebook paper covered in red splatters that look like blood was an appropriate image to accompany the “Attack of the Group Project” story. This choice seems incredibly tone-deaf and irresponsible at a moment when school shootings and other acts of mass violence are disturbingly common. I urge you to retract the image immediately.
Sincerely,
NTD

EDITOR’S NOTE: 8/30/19 – We would like to thank Dr. Dugre for bringing this to our attention. After reevaluating the image, The Signal Editorial Board agrees the illustration was offensive and tone-deaf. This was an unintentional oversight and the image was immediately removed and replaced upon receiving Dr. Dugre’s letter.
