TIMELINE: UHCL history of art on campus

The University of Houston is home to several pieces of artwork from the Public Art of the University of Houston System (PAUHS) Collection. In recognition of the importance of art being made open to public viewing to promote dialogue about visual arts and its relevance to contemporary life, the University of Houston System established a policy in 1969 that would dedicate one percent of the construction costs of all University building projects to the collection of the most significant works of art. Since then, PAUHS has collected nearly 700 objects on view throughout University of Houston System campuses, including the University of Houston-Clear Lake (UHCL). The following is a sample of the Public artwork on display at UHCL.
