Student Involvement and Leadership to host voter registration drive

Student Involvement and Leadership will be holding a voter registration drive under the name Rock the Vote on Wednesday, Oct. 2 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is for those who are not registered to vote to come and get registered. Registration is available for those who reside in Brazoria, Galveston and Harris County.

“The ideal goal is to help students get registered or at least help them understand the process,” said Mary LeBlanc, coordinator for community engagement. “We’ve had other events too like Constitution Day and had people even tell us they are already registered which is great.”

The event will be held in the Student Services Building Lobby and Hunter Hall Patio. There will also be giveaways and a raffle.

Any person needing an accommodation for a disability in order to participate in this program should contact the Student Life Office at 281-283-2560 or StudentLife@uhcl.edu at least one week prior to the event to arrange for accommodation.

“Hopefully it is an opportunity to get them educated in their civic duties in a non-partial way,” Leblanc said.

The deadline to register to vote is Oct. 7.
