Bryce Starr, coordinator for fitness and wellness said upcoming programs also include Plant The Promise, a day focused “on eco friendly activities and a promise to a greener tomorrow and globally focused campus.”

“We will also be hosting a student, employee and community focused event on October 31, from 4-9 pm in collaboration with Hunter Hall and many student organizations and departments here on campus,” Starr said. “Additional programs include our Final Stretch ending in a Final Stretch Bash to send students into finals with a centered and well balanced frame of mind while enjoying the breaks between studying. We will be focusing on various dimensions of wellness throughout the week prior to ending in an all out health and wellness based festival.”

Starr also gave insight into other plans for the center such as a meditation section of the center.

“Something I have challenged many, including my colleagues with, was the separation of fitness and wellness” Starr said. “With this we will be building a Meditation Station filled with a top of the line massage chair, biofeedback and optional guided breathing equipment. We will also be doing some minor cosmetic alterations in order to establish the Healthy Hawks Wellness Hub, a space for all preventative wellness services; including peer counseling, wellness counseling and the provision of resources such as sexual health, hygiene and referrals provided by various departmental and community organizations.”

Starr said his hopes as the Coordinator for Fitness and Wellness is to provide a space that is welcoming for all and will be the beginning of preventative wellness at UH-Clear Lake.

“This is just the beginning, as we are currently in the planning process for all programming for Spring 2020 and will be combining  much of our effort with UHCL Healthy Campus,” Starr said. “As co-chair, along side Amber Tempel and Karinn Jones for UHCL Healthy Campus, we hope to bridge the gap and collaborate in order to bring Health Services, Counseling Services and Campus Recreation and Wellness together in order to provide opportunities for all students, employees and community members.”
