BRIEF: Campus Recreation and Wellness Center invites Hawks to trick or treat

The University of Houston-Clear Lake Campus Recreation and Wellness Center (CRWC) will be hosting the inaugural ‘Trick or Treat at the Rec’ event on Oct. 31 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. The event will be hosted in collaboration with Student Housing and Residential Life, the Hawk Spirit and Traditions Council (HSTC), Orientation and New Student Programs (ONSP), the Campus Activities Board (CAB), Hawks 4 Community (H4C), the Spirit Squad and more.

The UHCL community can anticipate a variety of activities at this Halloween event, including face painting, a rock wall, pumpkin spice Piyo, a haunted house, costume contests and more.

“Students and community members can expect a safe, fun evening on campus filled with Halloween treats and surprises,” said Matthew Perry, Student Housing and Residential Life Director. “[There’s] something for everyone!”

Various student organizations will also be hosting events during the week leading up to the ‘Trick or Treat at the Rec’ event.

“CAB is actually partnering with HSTC, SGA, and H4C on ‘CAB Halloweek’, where we are having one event a day leading up to Trick or Treat at the Rec,” said Natalia Marfil, Campus Activities Board President.

As part of the activities taking place at the CRWC, trick or treating will occur at Hunter Hall from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

In addition to students, faculty and staff, the event will be open to the surrounding community.

“All kids and families in the local community are welcome and encouraged to attend,” Perry said. “This event is also open to their entire UHCL community.”

Participating departments and organizations are hoping that this new event will become a tradition for years to come.

“This is the first year for an event like this at UHCL and we expect that this may become one of the most popular campus traditions,” Perry said. “We look forward to providing students, kids, and family members with a safe, fun and engaging Halloween night on UHCL’s fantastic campus.”
