BRIEF: University bookstore undergoing renovations in May

The university bookstore will undergo renovations in May. These renovations are part of the system-wide contract between the University of Houston System and Follet. These renovations are cosmetic rather than serious reconstruction of the overall structure of the store.

“It’s going to make the place more inviting and more accessible to students,” said Mark Denney, Vice President for Administration and Finance.

Denny said an agreement between Follet and Chartwells about bringing food back to the bookstore is in negotiations. This compromise between the two will allow food and snack items to return to the store, but nothing has been established or confirmed yet.

“It’s a negotiation between the two vendors and our contract language,” Denny said.

After the renovations, UHCL can expect a new system of textbook adoption, for instructors to find a suitable textbook for their class. The purpose of the change is to make it easier to adopt textbooks.

Denny said students can expect a better selection of UHCL brand items, with a wider range of prices. The store will also continue price matching.

As of now, the start date of the renovations has not been confirmed but is set to start in May.
