BRIEF: UHCL confirms cases of COVID-19 connected to university community

The University of Houston-Clear Lake (UHCL) is currently aware of five confirmed cases of COVID-19 within the university community.

On the UHCL website, under the general FAQ section, an update was published April 10 that included the announcement. Previously, the website stated the university was unaware of any confirmed cases.

“UHCL is currently aware of five individuals connected to the university who have self-reported positive COVID-19 test results,” states the UHCL website. “These individuals have been advised to recuperate in self-isolation and to seek medical care as needed.”

UHCL has a student population of around 9,000 and employs 832 members of faculty and staff.

“The university has instituted strict guidelines to minimize occurrences,” states the UHCL website. “However, the occurrence of cases among our members is a reasonable expectation. When concern for any potential exposure to others is warranted, notification by the City of Houston’s Health Department or County Health District is made directly to those individuals.”

As of the publication of this brief, the University of Houston (UH) has announced being aware of 15 individuals with self-reported positive cases of COVID-19 connected to UH.  The University of Houston-Downtown has reported only one employee as having a confirmed case as of April 10. The University of Houston-Victoria has reported no cases as of April 8.

Those who have been exposed to or diagnosed with COVID-19 within the UHCL community – which includes students, faculty and staff – are encouraged to self-report via online forms found at titanium.uhcl.edu/TitaniumWeb/HS.
