LIST: Films postponed because of COVID-19

With the sudden COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a halt in movie premieres worldwide. Theaters across the country have been closed. Some movies are going online, but many are being postponed. Below are a few anticipated movies that have a delayed release date.


A Quiet Place Part II 

Original Release Date: March 20, 2020

New Release Date: Sept. 4, 2020 

The second installment of “A Quiet Place” following the crisis that has shaken the Abbott family. They now stand against horrors that are happening in a post-apocalyptic world, escaping the creatures that hunt and discover that the creatures are not the only ones that pose a menace to humankind. Will they overcome this horror? 


Minions: The Rise of Gru 

Original Release Date: March 20, 2020

New Release Date: July 2, 2021

One of the films that make for a family night is the prequel to the minions franchise, “Minions: The Rise of Gru.” An enthusiast of a supervillain group recognized as the Vicious 6, young Gru interviews to join the mighty force to be reckoned with. Audiences expect a fun ride with lots of laughter. 


Mulan 

Original Release Date: March 27, 2020

New Release Date: July 24, 2020

In this live-action version of Disney’s 1998 animated musical, a fearless young woman named Mulan chooses to take the place of her aging father as a warrior. Mulan masquerades as a man to battle the onslaught of invaders from the North. This live-action version will not include musical numbers, as known for in the original animated film. 


Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway 

Original Release Date: March 27, 2020 

New Release Date: Jan. 15, 2021

COVID-19 also put a pause on kid-friendly entertainment on the big screen including “Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway,” a sequel to 2018’s “Peter Rabbit.” This sequel is set to follow Peter, Thomas and Bea as they go into the big city where they meet shady new characters, get into a new adventure and construct chaos for the whole family. 


X-Men: The New Mutants 

Original Release Date: April 3, 2020 

New Release Date: TBD 

“X-Men: The New Mutants” has a change in characters and five new mutants just discovering their new abilities while being held captive in a secret facility against their will. The new mutants try to escape their past sins and save themselves all while going through tortuous routes. 


The Lovebirds 

Original Release Date: April 3, 2020 

New Release Date: TBD on Netflix 

The comedy “The Lovebirds” is about a couple experiencing a defining moment in their relationship, when suddenly becoming involved in a murder mystery. As they start to run, the couple soon becomes part of the FBI’s most-wanted list. Escaping from federal agents, they go on a quest to find out who is behind it all. Originally the movie was supposed to be shown during the week of South by South West (SXSW) in Austin, Texas, and then on the big screen on April 3, but the festival was shut down because of COVID-19. However,  the film will be available on Netflix later in 2020.


Antlers 

Original Release Date: April 17, 2020

New Release Date: TBD

“Antlers” is a dark horror film about a boy hiding some type of supernatural creature. The film will have audiences in suspense as the new release date is still to be announced. 


Wonder Woman 1984 

Original Release Date: June 5, 2020 

New Release Date: Aug. 14, 2020 

Powerful, strong, and mighty are a few words being used by critics(?) to define the new “Wonder Woman 1984” film. The anticipated superhero film, that ties into the DC comic universe, goes back to the year 1984 where Diana Prince (Wonder Woman) clashes with two daunting foes – Maxwell Lord, a media businessman, and a friend-turned-enemy Barbara Ann Minerva, aka the Cheetah – all while reuniting with her prior love Steve Trevor, and battling anything that comes her way as she strives to make peace. 


No Time to Die 

Original Release Date: April 2, 2020

New Release Date: November 25, 2020 

“No time to Die” has James Bond returning from his short-lived retired life when Felix Leiter, an old friend from the CIA, comes asking for help. Resuming his role as 007 leads Bond to hunt for a mysterious villain armed with powerful/dangerous new technology harmful to humans. A never-ending thrill ride, watch as Bond finds a way to protect the one he loves and a secret that is ready to be known. 


F9

Original Release Date: May 22, 2020 

New Release Date: April 2, 2021 

In a major plot twist to “F9, ”Dominic Toretto and his family must face a new, deadlier enemy in the form of Jakob – who is Dominic’s younger brother – as well as an old friend, Cipher. With expected twists and turns this film will be as movie fans will eagerly wait for now.
