BRIEF: UHCL reverts to online format following Harris County “Stay Home Work Safe” advisory

UHCL reverted to online operations following Harris County’s “Stay Home Work Safe” advisory on June 26. All campuses, including the Pearland and Texas Medical Center locations, are limited to essential personnel and all summer courses will continue in an online format.

The “Stay Home Work Safe” order was issued by Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo in response to Harris County moving to a level one COVID-19 threat, the highest in the system.

The Ready Harris website says a level one indicates, “a severe and uncontrolled level of COVID-19 in Harris County, meaning outbreaks are present and worsening and that testing and contact tracing capacity is strained or exceeded.”

The advisory encourages county residents to remain home, except for essential needs, to wear face coverings and to self-quarantine if necessary.

UHCL is encouraging all students to stay home during this time and there is currently no announced date for reopening.

While the remote format continues, student support services and resources will be offered to students virtually.

Updates on-campus operations can be found at UHCL’s Coronavirus Health Alert page on the university website.
