BRIEF: COVID-19 on-campus protocol

The Fall 2020 reopening plan for UHCL began August 24.

UHCL students must also complete a mandatory COVID-19 student module training to return to campus. The student training module for COVID-19 is located under the ‘Tasks’ menu in students’ E-Services account. Students will receive a certificate when the training is complete. Before returning to work, all UHCL staff must complete a similar mandatory COVID-19 training in the Training Access Portal (TAP).

Campus is open to students enrolled in bimodal courses, students conducting research or students who live at Hunter Hall. Services are available on-campus at a somewhat restricted, socially distanced and appointment-based basis. Contact an office before visiting to find out their latest procedures.

Students, faculty and staff will be required to wear face coverings while on-campus. If one requires an accommodation for any reason, employees should reach out to the Human Resources (HR) department and students should contact the Student Assistance Center (SAC).

“Everyone should remember your protocols; keep the partying down to a minimum, wear your face coverings and wash your hands as often as you can,” said Al Black, director of emergency management and environmental health and safety at UHCL.

Black emphasized the need for self-reporting from students, staff and faculty to aid in contact tracing. Those experiencing symptoms and/or test positive for COVID-19 or come into contact with someone who has should report it on the official form located on UHCL’s COVID-19 updates page as soon as possible. The university will use contact tracing to track the progress of the campus’s code levels, which are detailed on the COVID-19 updates page.

There are kits in each classroom containing hand sanitizer, disposable mask, paper towels and disinfectant wipes. Students are encouraged to take a kit and wipe down their area.

Additionally, there are ambassadors on patrol to encourage people on campus to wear masks and follow all health and safety precautions. Ambassadors will provide masks to those who do not have one.

Campus operations will continue on a remote basis until further notice.

UHCL has many resources available to students, staff and faculty who may be struggling during the pandemic.
