COMMUNITY UPDATE: Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

Hispanic Heritage Month: Sept. 15-Oct. 15

Every year, the nation recognizes the achievements, culture and contributions of Latinx and Hispanic individuals during Hispanic Heritage Month. This 30-day observance begins on the anniversary of Independence Day for five Central American countries, and UHCL is proud to be part of the nationwide festivities. Here are some highlights:

  • Mural Map Tour, Sept. 15-21: Take a tour down Houston’s East End to follow mural maps made by LLAS committee members.
  • Lotería, Sept. 23 and 30: Learn more about the history of the popular Mexican game of chance Lotería, and watch the game played live online.
  • Cocinar, Chismear y Cenar, Oct. 15: Cook, talk and dine during this virtual cooking demonstration led by Drs. Christina Cedillo and Desi Rios.

You can access the full schedule of events online. We hope you’ll join us for the fun!

These events are hosted by areas across campus, including the Latinx and Latin American Studies program, Office of Student Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and Office of the President.
