RECAP: SGA meeting unveils “Hawk the Vote” event for Election Day

The Oct. 27 SGA meeting fund request balance was $22,500.

SGA President Hiba Loya reminded students of the Candlelight Vigil on Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. in the Alumni Plaza in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Loya let students know about Hawk the Vote, which will take place Nov. 3 at 11:30 a.m. SGA and student organization representatives will walk from the SSCB to the voting booths in Campus Recreation and Wellness. Those who attend will receive SGA attendance credits. If student representatives have already voted, they can still join. They will also be giving out shirts on a first come first serve basis.

Loya mentioned the positions of VP of Outreach and Communication and VP or Administration are still open and spoke about the Halloween Event at the Recreation Center.

Alina Thomas, peer advisor from OSIL, spoke about the next LEDS workshop. It will be Oct. 28 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Chandler also mentioned the Teacher Career Fair will be Nov. 12 at 2:30 p.m. Registration for these events is through Handshake.

During open forum a representative of the Applied Behavior Analysis Student Organization (ABASO) asked about the process for changing the constitution to which Loya responded that they have an ad-hoc committee and students can join.

Director for the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership Patrick Cardenas added that there is an amendment where student representatives can submit amendments and vote on them so that there can be a change in the constitution and they are thinking of going back to that.

Aravindh Shakthi of ISA mentioned they have an event for Diwali coming up and they will be submitting a fund request so they want students to join the SGA meeting to meet quorum.

The meeting ended at 11:57 a.m.
